Black Money
“Black Money” by J.A. Outlaw is the first single released from the Black Money Exhibit Soundtrack. It’s an upbeat 90s-style Dancehall-Reggae track with a modern twist that name-drops different currencies previously and currently used in Africa and the African Diaspora. It calls for Black people to invest their money in assets, build wealth, and have more representation on their currencies, the latter issue referring more to the American and European contexts. Like the gold coin that forms the cover art of this single, Outlaw shines on “Black Money,” especially on the bridge, where he emphasizes, “…full time we have we own money…Marcus Garvey fight fi we, you know. Martin Luther King…Malcom X…Black people, a time fi unite. We need we own currency, we need we own land, we need we own place!!!” The artist implores his audience to “generate nuff wealth and keep it legit,” but he also asks the pressing question, “if Black Lives Matter why we still inna poverty?” A song that speaks to this moment, “Black Money” is out on all major digital music platforms – https://smarturl.it/pb07mi. It’s already creating a major buzz on the national and international music scene.
